LUNA, Apayao – Some 30 Disaster Risk Reduction Management personnel completed a five-day Positions Course Training on Incident Command System (ICS) on September 30, 2024 to October 04, 2024 held at Alta Vista Ilocandia, Inc., Caparispisan, Pagudpud, Ilocos Norte.
The Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO), in partnership with Office of Civil Defense-Cordillera Administrative Region (OCD-CAR), conducted the third of the four- series ladderized trainings of ICS.
The training aims to ensure a seamless and efficient response to individuals who need comprehensive training in these roles. The five-day ICS Positions Course Training offered a comprehensive immersion in the ICS framework equipping participants with the knowledge and skills to effectively manage incidents operations.
Participants are from the different agencies composing the response cluster of the Apayao PDRRM Council and personnel from the municipal DRRM offices.
The participants gained a thorough understanding of the ICS structure, principles and terminology, including the roles and responsibilities of each position within the command structure, the communication protocols and incident action planning process.
During the training, they were engaged in realistic simulations and exercises to practice their skills in a safe and controlled environment. The exercises involved applying ICS principles to real-world scenarios allowing participants to develop their decision- making abilities and teamwork skills.
The training fostered teamwork and collaboration enabling them to work together effectively during critical incidents. It is a crucial step in ensuring the safety and well-being of communities during critical incidents. Upon successful completion of the course participants received their certification, demonstrating their proficiency in ICS principles and practices.
Following that, the completers will be given a proper evaluation and shall proceed to Level 4 or the last level of ICS series of training, which is the All-Hazard Incident Management Team to be conducted on October 21-25, 2024. By Krizza Joy Castillo
