BAGUIO CITY – Some thirty barangays in the city had already been provided with basic firefighting training by the personnel of the Baguio City Fire Station (BCFS) to help in empowering the public to be aware of fire prevention measures.
Senior Fire Officer (SO) 1 Lloyd Ashley Forigay, BCFS public information officer, said that the bureau will continue to provide the necessary firefighting training to more barangays to significantly increase the awareness of the public in fire prevention efforts as preventing the occurrence of fire is everyone’s concern, thus, the need for a holistic approach in addressing the said matter.
Further, he also encouraged companies to organize their respective fire brigades to serve as first responders in cases of fire within their jurisdiction and be a part of the pool of firefighters that could be tapped for fire suppression efforts within their areas of operation.
He said that the BCFS is open to interested groups in the city that want to be provided with the necessary skills and knowledge on firefighting and fire prevention for them to be tapped as part of empowering people to be equipped for them to be able to respond to emergency situations, especially during the occurrence of fire incidents.
The fire officer reminded the public to avoid the so-called octopus connections in their residences as part of efforts to prevent the occurrence of fires considering that among the recorded causes of fires are electrical ignitions and loose connections.
In the case of commercial structures around the city, he said that building owners are mandated to provide the appropriate firefighting equipment and the prescribed fire exists to ensure that there will be devices that will be used to detect and suppress fires that may occur anytime to help in saving lives and damaging properties.
