BAGUIO CITY – The 3rd staging of the Piraso Cup had its opening day last Sunday, January 14, 2018 at the Piraso Basketball court, here.
Piraso Resort proprietor and sponsor of the “Piraso cup” basketball tournament, Benjun Pua, lead the ceremonies to usher basketball action. Pua, known for his hospitality in accommodating visitors and resort goers, again provides the youth in the community the venue and an avenue where they can develop and enhance their skills and talents in basketball. He conducts the tournament every year to provide the youth in the community a better leisure, fun and camaraderie, as an alternative activity to keep the youth away from vices.
The league just a good response from the community with the addition of two more teams for the basketball tilt this year, making a total of ten teams to vie for the championship. The tournament format follows a single round robin eliminations, with the top four teams advancing to in a two-to-beat cross-over semifinal round. The top 1 meets the top 4 while the top 2 faces the top 3 to determine who enters the championship round.
Among the participating teams are Insuns, Time Out, Piraso, Budz, Brothers Club, Alejo, Mager, Parapad, along with two others.
On the first day of basketball action, Time Out won its first match versus the Brothers Club by default; Alejo ripped Budz, 95-86; Insuns also popped their first win against Mager, 66-51; and Parapad over shadowed Piraso 97-93.
The tournament will be facilitated by the SBP-ABBA group of basketball referees for the season. Games at Piraso are scheduled on Sundays starting 10:00 o’clock in the morning.
