City officials congratulated and commended Jerson Kent H. Danao and Danielle Rose Gertrude R. Tan of the University of the Philippines College Baguio (UPCB) for garnering third place in the recently concluded Philippine Journalism Research Conference – Community Studies category held last May 5, 2023 at the UP Diliman, Quezon City.
In a resolution authored by Councilor Betty Lourdes F. Tabanda, local legislators stated that the remarkable feat by Danao and Tan who are from UPCB reaffirms that the city is indeed the educational capital of the north.
Further, the said pride and honor had been upheld through the years by the numerous performances of the students whose skills and talents were harnessed and nurtured by the educational institutions based in the city.
The Philippine Journalism Research Conference is a journalism conference that recognizes student excellence in academic research, investigative journalism, special projects and photo journalism.
Earlier, this year’s hyflex event was actively participated by both in-person attendees at the Film Studio in UP Diliman and on-line participants via social media platform.
The conference was organized by the UP Department of Journalism with the University of Sto. Tomas (UST) and Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PU) sponsored by the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research and Development, UP College of Mass Communication Foundation, Inc., Embassy of Canada, Vera Files, Philippine Press Institute (PPI) and the Simbulan family.
Hundreds of students from various universities across the country submitted their research works for the six categories, namely, Best in Journalism Research (Academic Studies), Best in Journalism Research (Community Studies), Best in Special Projects (News Documentary), Best in Special Projects (Documentary Feature), Bet Photo Essay and Best in Investigative Journalism.
Among the 9 finalists for the Best Journalism Research (Community Studies Category), the entry titled ‘Cordillera Journalists Fight Against Cyber Libel’ by Jerson Kent H. Danao and Danielle Rose Gertrude R. Tan of UPCB garnered third place.
Copies of the resolution will be forwarded to Danao, Tan and UPCB for their information, guidance, ready reference and further needed action.
