BAGUIO CITY – Some 401 lucky applicants were hired on the spot by different local companies and overseas employment agencies during the recently conducted Baguio Charter Day jobs fair at the Baguio Convention Center Wednesday.
Jose Atanacio, Executive Assistant IV of the City Mayor’s Office and concurrent manager of the Public Employment Services Office (PESO), said some 3,225 applicants who were able to register for the whole day jobs fair but only 2,301 applicants were able to be qualified by the different local and overseas employment companies.
He added there were 414 male and 770 female applicants who were able to be qualified by the local employment companies while there were 556 male and 461 female applicants who were qualified by the overseas employment agencies.
For those who were hired on the spot, 248 females and 140 males were able to get instant jobs in different local companies while 7 females and 6 males were instantly employed by overseas employment companies and will be ready for deployment after completion of the appropriate medical examination.
Atanacio disclosed the placement rate of the jobs fair was pegged at 17.43 percent which is considered a significant accomplishment in the bid of the city government to provide qualified residents with employment opportunities through the conduct of the jobs fair.
“We were elated over the support of our constituents to the conduct of the Baguio Charter Day jobs fair. WE want to sustain the conduct of the jobs fair in order to be able to provide our local residents easy access to possible employment in the future,” Atanacio said.
It has been an integral part of the month-long activities lined up for the celebration of the annual Charter Day of Baguio City the conduct of a jobs fair in order to that unemployed local residents will be able to land in good jobs in the future.
It was learned that the 22 local companies and 12 overseas employment agencies offered 2,055 and 6,202 job vacancies, respectively during the said Baguio Charter Day jobs fair.
