TABUK CITY, Kalinga – Set on the first week of August, around 50 young jobseekers will undergo three months of technical training and another three months of internship under the mentorship of participating employers for a chance to acquire work experience or even a permanent job at their assigned establishment.
In this endeavor, 11 private establishments tied up with the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) and the city through the Public Employment Services Office (PESO) to increase the employability of youth in education, employment, and training (NEET) in the city through the JobStart program.
These trainees underwent the orientation on July 9, 2024, on their upcoming 10-day Life Skills Training (LST). They will be receiving a stipend of PhP400 per day while undergoing LST.
DOLE Senior Employment Officer Emmanuel Barcellano during the orientation said that JobStart is a program that aims to prepare young Filipinos for employment while helping employers meet their manpower needs with well-prepared young men and women workers.
Tabuk PESO Manager Loyda Saboy disclosed that participating employers include the Tabuk Multi-Purpose Cooperative, Bagumbayan Antiques Furniture, Bides General Merchandise, Mang Inasal, L & E Power Twins Construction, Carlo’s Catering Services, Kalinga Act Mountain View Resort, Golden Berries Hotel and Convention Center, Tree Tops Eco Adventure Resort, K Servico, and Equity Machinery.
Mayor Darwin C. Estrañero in his message said this project is a continuous effort of the city government to the DOLE program to ensure the job readiness of the Tabukeños.
“Nagasat tayo ta maysa ti City of Tabuk kadagiti naikkan iti opportunities a kastuy,” said the mayor as he emphasized the importance of partnering with businesses in the city in the deployment of the trainees.
“Daytuy ti araramiden ti city government ta iti progreso iti maysa nga ili is the influx of businesses and when you talk about business, you talk about revenues. Nu adu ti source of income, agsubli kanyayu in return as services, such as social services, health services, infrastructure services and more,” he said.
The mayor then assured that his administration is keen on enticing more investors to come to the city while providing better opportunities for the local businesses to create more jobs for the growing manpower of the city. By Rio Bassong
