BAGUIO CITY – Some five hundred individuals from all walks of life in the city signed up for the enhanced peacekeeping, clean and green advocacy of the local government to boost the sustained peace and order and improved cleanliness and greenery around the country’s undisputed Summer Capital.
The new peace, clean and green advocates came from the porters and stallholders of the city public market, barangay satellite markets, night market vendors, barangay officials and men and women in uniform through the initiative of Councilor Leandro B. Yangot, Jr., Chairman of the Committee on Market, Trade, Commerce and Agriculture.
Mayor Mauricio G. Domogan administered the oathtaking of the new peace, clean and green advocates during simple rites held at the Ibaloi Park Tuesday morning.
The local chief executive challenged the new peace, clean and green advocates to exert extra efforts in trying to police their own ranks and contaminate their neighbors in maintaining the cleanliness and greenery of their community so that more people will be encouraged to help in the successful implementation of the necessary initiatives that will bring the city to greater heights.
The advocates pledged to the local government that they will spend some 100 hours annually to be involved in various peacekeeping, clean and green initiatives that will contribute to the realization of the dream and aspiration of the local officials for a better place to live.
Further, the said individuals also committed to help in sustaining the existence of a peaceful and orderly environment by not actually littering around public places and will not allow anyone to just dirty the city.
The new advocates vowed to start cleanliness in themselves, within their families and spreading the good news to their neighbors in the barangay to start a bandwagon effect among the city’s populace.
They claimed they will also convince 100 individuals each whom they believe will help in spousing the peace, clean and green initiatives to themselves and to their communities.
According to them, it is their firm belief that lasting peace is the foundation of sustainable development and it is with the said reason that they will maintain the fact that the people will remain steadfast in believing in the real intentions of the program towards a just and comprehensive development and lasting peace in the city.
Councilor Yangot claimed the vigilance of the advocates will definitely be helpful in achieving the commission of lesser crimes in the city public market, the night market area, the parks and other public places like what happened during the duration of the month-long activities lined up for the 22nd edition of the Panagbenga where there were not pickpocket cases that were reported within the market encounter area along Burnham lake drive.
He said surprises will await the advocates who will make sure that there will be much less criminal activities in the different parts of the public market, satellite market areas, night market area and public parks and places in the different parts of the city.
