TABUK CITY, Kalinga – The city government, through the City Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO), reported a total of 5,172.72 tons of residual waste collected from residents and establishments between January and November of this year.
CENRO Assistant Department Head George Padalla shared the information during the 4th Quarter Rural Barangays Solid Waste Management Group meeting.
Padalla said that from the same period, a total of 2,572 truck loads with an average of 2.02 tons per truck were disposed of in the sanitary landfill in Barangay Dilag.
The report showed that average daily waste disposal stands at 15.67 tons.
The month of January noted the highest collection at 611.85 tons, followed by August (530.66 tons) and November (511.32 tons).
Padalla emphasized the importance of proper waste management, particularly in light of the landfill’s capacity.
He urged barangays to make their material recovery facilities operational and called on residents to manage biodegradable waste at home.
In response to the increasing waste disposal needs, the city government has allocated PhP30,000,000 in supplemental funding for the construction of Phase 1, Cell 2 of the sanitary landfill. By Ian Jefrey Addatu
