LUNA, Apayao – Out of 133 barangays in Apayao, 53 got the award Kalinga at Inisyatiba Para sa Malinis na Bayan (KALINISAN) sa Bagong Pilipinas Program for the period April to June 2024, the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) announced on Thursday.
It can be recalled that relative to DILG Memorandum Circular No. 2024-001, all barangays nationwide were enjoined to conduct clean-up drives and other relevant activities as part of National Community Development Day and in support of the KALINISAN sa Bagong Pilipinas Program, in which aforesaid barangay awardees in Apayao evidently performed well.
The Kalinisan Program’s three (3) components BARCO, BARKADA, and HAPAG aimed to provide the public safety, convenience and well maintained streets, roads; make communities a healthy place to live in; and create sustainable green edible spaces, respectively, DILG-CAR explained.
There are 1,178 barangays in the whole Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) and the most number of top performing barangays in CAR for that period come from the province – 53 from 133. That is 39.84%.
With this, Governor Elias C. Bulut Jr. lauded the barangay officials for their outstanding compliance, directing them to incessantly exemplify unified efforts to lead their respective constituents to indulge in environmental and community programs for a better Apayao.
The barangays which were conferred the awards across Apayao (per municipality) are as follows:
The Barangay Road Clearing Operation (BARCO) award was bestowed to the barangays of Luna (Cagandungan, Zumigui, Poblacion, Quirino, San Isidro Norte, San Sebastian, Bacsay, Lappa, Calabigan); Calanasan (Poblacion, Naguilian, Tanglagan); Conner (Ili, Mawigue, Daga);Flora (Balluyan, Allig, Pob. West); Kabugao (Badduat, Lenneng, Luttuacan); Pudtol (San Antonio, Cabatacan, Imelda);and Santa Marcela (San Antonio, Barocboc, Panay).
The Barangay at Kalinisan Day (BARKADA) award was additionally given to Luna (San Francisco, San Isidro Norte, Poblacion); Calanasan (Naguilian, Kabugawan, Eleazar);Conner (Sacpil, Talifugo, Mawigue);Flora (Upper Atok, San Jose, Atok); Kabugao (Laco, Magabta, Poblacion); Pudtol (San Antonio, Cacalaggan, Aga); Santa Marcela (Panay, San Antonio, Sipa).
The Halina’t Magtanim ng Prutas at Gulay (HAPAG) award was also added to Luna (Zumigui, Sta. Lina, Tumog, San Francisco); Calanasan (Poblacion, Santa Filomena); Conner (Mawigue, Paddaoan, Caglayan);Flora (Sta. Maria, Allig, Anninipan); Kabugao (Laco, Badduat, Lenneng); Pudtol (San Antonio, Cabatacan, Capannikian, Mataguisi); and Santa Marcela (Barocboc, Malekkeg, Marcela, Panay, Sipa). By Arjay Baysa
