LA TRINIDAD, Benguet April 08 – Some 5,600 indigent residents from the province’s 140 barangays stand to benefit from the various social welfare programs of the government through the initiative of Benguet Caretaker Congressman and Anti-Crime and Terrorism through Community Involvement and Support (ACT-CIS) Party-list Rep. Eric Go Yap.
Kevin Edward See, Rep. Yap’s Chief of Staff, said that the identification of the beneficiaries will be done in close coordination with the local government units after the implementation of the government’s social amelioration program (SAP) to ascertain that those who were left out in the SAP will assistance as expanded beneficiaries of the government’s programs.
He explained that 25 indigent families from each of the province’s barangays will be enrolled under the labor department’s Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced workers (TUPAD) who will be receiving a compensation of P3,500 for work rendered while 15 indigent families will be registered with the social department’s Assistance for Individuals in Crisis Situation (AICS) receiving P3,000 aid.
“Congressman Yap understands the situation we are currently facing and he is sourcing out the needed funds from concerned government agencies to assist indigent families who are really in need of help as the government’s social amelioration program cannot accommodate all who are in need of aid,” Mr. See stressed.
Aside from Benguet, Yap also provided similar assistance to other parts of the country through the ACT-CIS party-list to help indigent people to recover from the present crisis that the country is facing.
See explained the grant of the benefits to identified beneficiaries will be processed by the concerned agencies after the SAP beneficiaries have been identification to avoid duplication of beneficiaries in the 13 towns of the province because there are numerous families who really need assistance in these trying times.
He urged municipal mayors to ensure that the list of beneficiaries they submit to the concerned government agencies will pass through the rigid validation process to avoid potential complaint of being excluded in such list despite their proven indigent status.
Yap’s representative called on the residents of the province to be patient in awaiting the implementation of the SAP to avoid confusion among the beneficiaries of the different social welfare programs of the government and to ensure there will be no unnecessary misunderstanding among the beneficiaries.
He underscored that the money of the government is not sufficient to provide emergency assistance to every Filipino wanting to be part of the SAP, thus, priority is given to those who are really in dire need of emergency assistance.
