LUNA, Apayao – As exemplars for community development, all seven municipalities in the province were honored for their efforts in maintaining a healthy and safe environment in the Kalinga at Inisyatiba Para sa Malinis na Bayan (KALINISAN) sa Bagong Pilipinas Program listed for the 2nd Quarter CY 2024 in the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR).
All municipalities – Calanasan, Conner, Flora, Kabugao, Luna, Pudtol, and Santa Marcela – were able to pass the assessments in the KALINISAN Program of the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG).
The KALINISAN Program is an effort aimed at pooling the government’s resources to ensure and uphold a clean and secure environment for everyone. It serves as a measure, in line with the government’s initiative to advocate for a greener and safer environment for all.
Out of 75 municipalities in the CAR, Apayao’s seven municipalities stood out as some of their barangays were included on the list of top-performing barangays in the region, the DILG-CAR said on Thursday, August 8.
The KALINISAN Program, which is rooted from the practice of “Bayanihan,” consists of three major components: Barangay Road Clearing Operation (BARCO), Brgy at Kalinisan Day (BARKADA) and Halina’t Magtanim ng Prutas at Gulay (HAPAG) sa Barangay Project.
The BARCO’s goal is to bring safety and convenience for the public especially on roads that are clean, tidy, well-preserved with an organized space.
HAPAG, on the other hand, is an agri-forestry management program that advocates to plant more trees and create sustainable green edible spaces in communities.
Governor Elias C. Bulut Jr., as an advocate for environmental protection and preservation, reiterated his reminders to citizens and government officials in Apayao to maintain a healthy environment and ideal place for all yApayaos to live in.
“It is truly inspiring to witness the recognition given to Apayao as an evidence of their commitment to sustainability, with all of our municipalities showcasing excellence. I am proud to say that Apayao is leading the way, and I am confident that this recognition will inspire us to even greater heights in our pursuit of environmental excellence,” said Bulut in his previous speeches.
