BAGUIO CITY – Science and Technology Secretary Mario Montejo will be conferring to seven Cordilleras the Science and Technology Ambassadors for their outstanding contributions to the upliftment of science and technology programs in their respective fields of expertise during the Stakeholders Night which will be held at the CAP Convention Center inside Camp John Hay on October 7, 2015.
Dr. Nancy Bantog, assistant regional director of the Cordillera office of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST-CAR), revealed those who will be conferred with the Science and Technology Ambassadors are Mayor Mauricio G. Domogan, Bauko, Mountain Province Mayor Abraham B. Akilit, Rizal, Kalinga Mayor Marcelo dela Cruz, Benguet State University (BSU president Dr. Ben Ladilad; University of the Philippines (UP) Chancellor Raymond Rubillos, DOST Balik Scientist Dr. Daniel Peckley and Philippine Information Agency – Cordillera Administrative Region regional director Helen Tibaldo.
Domogan will be cited for his significant contributions to the promotion of science and technology by being the author of the law that established the campus of the Philippine National High School in the Cordillera which is now temporarily based in barangay Irisan here.
On the other hand, Akilit will be given citation because of his all-out support to the establishment of community-based science and technology projects in the municipality of Bauko since assuming the mayoralty post in 2013.
During Mayor Akilit’s term, Bantog disclosed the three community-based science and technology projects increased to eighteen which have provided additional sources of livelihood for the people in the different barangays.
Further, Mayor Aklit donated his 2,000-square meter property that paved the way for the establishment of the ceramic filter project of the agency which will be contributory in the generation and production of potable water for domestic consumption during the height of natural calamities that visit the various parts of the region.
For Mayor dela Cruz, the DOST will be citing him for his similar unrelenting and uncompromising support to the implementation and promotion of community-based science and technology projects in Rizal, Kalinga over the past several years.
Dr. Peckley, who is a Balik Scientist, will be cited for his contributions to disaster mitigating interventions through the conduct of a series of research’s that uses science and technology interventions to allow communities to be able to cope up with the serious negative effects of natural and man-made calamities that visit the different parts of the region.
At the same time, Dr. Ladilad will also be given citation by the DOST for his contributions to the conduct of science and technology researches in BSU as well as accommodating the agency’s complimentary food project and its machining project that enhanced the aggressive promotion of science and technology projects in the countryside.
For Dr. Rubillos, he will be cited because of his significant contributions as chairperson of the Cordillera Health Research and Development Consortium while Tibaldo will be cited for her contributions in the promotion of science and technology projects regionwide.
