KIANGAN, Ifugao September 06 – A hunter accidentally shot to death his fellow hunter whom he thought was a deer in the forested area of Mount Alibut-tung, barangay Bokiawan, here, Monday.
Police Brig. Gen. Mafelino Bazar, regional director of the Police Regional Office (PRO) in the Cordillera, identified the fatality was Freddie Ananayo Yogyog, 43, married, farmer and a resident of Bokiawan, Kiangan, Ifugao.
The suspect was also named as Lener Layagon Tobiagon, 28, single, farmer and a resident of the aforesaid place.
Probers disclosed that the two farmers went to the forested area of their place to hunt for wild deers at around noon of Sunday.
However, the due decided to go home Monday morning after they were not successful on their endeavor.
While walking home, the saw on their way fresh footprints of wild deers that might be present in the area so they decided to part ways to hunt for the said animal.
After several moments, Tobiagon notice some movements in a bushy area that prompted him to fire at the said area, hoping that it was the deer they are looking for that was causing the movement in the bushy area.
However, he was surprised to see that it was Yogyog that was sprawled bloodied in the bushy area that was hit by his gunshot instead of the deer he was hoping that got hit during the said incident.
The suspect immediately went home and told the suspect’s wife about what happened that prompted their relatives to accompany him to retrieve the victim’s body from the place of the shooting incident.
The firearm used in the said incident remains unidentified because the suspect did not surrender the said firearm.
Tobiagon’s relatives immediately surrendered him to the personnel of the Kiagan Municipal Police Station for the filing of the appropriate charges against him while Yogyog’s remains was brought to his residence for him to be given a decent wake and burial.
