BONTOC, Mountain Province – Seventy-three rice farmers from the different barangays of Bontoc received bags of complete fertilizers from the Bontoc Local Government Unit (LGU) through the Office of the Municipal Agriculturist (OMag) at the Municipal Capitol, earlier today, June 03, 2024.
Municipal Government Assistant Department Head Catherine Agcon of the OMAg said that the assistance provided to the farmers was sourced out from the Gender and Development (GAD) Fund of the Bontoc LGU under the Agricultural Intervention for Rice Program and High-Value Crops Development Program.
Agcon explained that the farmers who availed of the free fertilizers are registered in the Registry of Basic Sectors in Agriculture (RSBSA). Relative to this, she encouraged farmers and fisherfolks to enrol in the RSBSA for them to avail of future interventions from the DA.
Agcon added that the registration is free and interested farmers may visit the OMAg located at the 4th Floor of the Bontoc Municipal Capitol for further inquiries.
In his message, Bontoc Mayor Jerome “Chagsen” Tudlong, Jr., extended his appreciation to the hardworking rice farmers and expressed hope for abundant harvests in the cropping seasons.
Likewise, he expressed the LGU’s full support to the agriculture industry emphasizing that it plays a critical role in the development of not only the municipality but the country as a whole.
The mayor mentioned that ensuring rice sufficiency while at the same time uplifting the lives of the farmers in the locality is one of his flagship programs under Economic Empowerment. This is one of the four pillars of his administration’s roadmap – “ENLANGAKHA: Achieving the Vision for A Dynamic Bontoc”.
Meanwhile, the Bontoc LGU has procured vegetable seeds which are being repacked and ready for distribution for those who are interested to avail. These vegetable seeds include pechay, snap beans, eggplant, sitao, and ampalaya.
Thus, Agcon mentioned that those who are interested in availing of the free vegetable seeds are advised to visit the OMAg.
