BAGUIO CITY – Some seven hundred thirty-eight applicants were hired by various local and overseas employment companies during the Labor Day jobs fair held at the Baguio Convention Center last May 1, 2017.
Jose Atanacio, Executive Assistant IV and Public Employment Services Office (PESO) Manager-designate of the City Mayor’s Office, said those who were hired on the spot represent 19 percent of the total 3,876 job applicants interviewed by the participating local and overseas employment agencies.
Further, he disclosed there were also some 2,436 applicants who were nearly hired by the different companies that joined the whole day jobs fair sponsored by the Department of Labor and Employment and the local government of Baguio.
Of the applicants who were hired on the spot, some 720 applicants were hired by different local companies while 18 applicants were hired by overseas employment agencies.
For those who were nearly hired, some 1,419 applicants were nearly hired by different overseas employment agencies while there were some 1,017 applicants were nearly hired by various participating local companies during the duration of the jobs fair.
The PESO official disclosed there were 164 applicants composed of 84 males and 80 females who were referred to concerned government agencies for livelihood assistance while 273 applicants composed of 147 females and 126 males were referred to the Technical Education Skills and Development Authority (TESDA) for skills training.
According to him, there were some 3,170 job applicants composed of 1,729 local applicants and 1,441 overseas applicants who were initially qualified for the jobs fair.
Some 51 companies composed of 36 local companies and 15 overseas employment agencies actively participated by offering over 23,000 jobs for the Labor Day jobs fair in the city.
There were over 20,800 overseas jobs and over 2,200 local jobs that were offered by the participating companies to the thousands of job applicants that flocked to the Baguio Convention Center to look for employment opportunities.
Aside from the Labor Day jobs fair, other scheduled jobs fairs for the year include the Kalayaan Day jobs fair in time for the celebration of Independence Day in June and the Baguio Charter Day jobs fair which forms part of the activities lined up for the month-long celebration of the city’s Charter anniversary.
Mayor Mauricio G. Domogan extended his greetings and congratulations to those who were hired on the spot and urged those who were nearly hired to complete as soon as possible documents needed to complete the requirements for a sure job.
He said the local government will continue to do its best to find the ways to bring employers to the city for them to hire qualified local residents for the vacancies in their respective companies.
