LUNA, Apayao – A total of 80 young participants from the province gathered on April 23 for a one-day Advocacy Campaign and Orientation on Youth-Related Laws, organized by the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO) at Star Jewel Lodge, San Isidro.
The orientation focused on raising awareness of legal rights, social responsibilities, and mental health among the youth, equipping them with knowledge to make informed decisions and become active contributors to their communities.
One session tackled mental health awareness, led by Claudine M. Caluducan, Population Program Officer of the Provincial Health Office (PHO). She discussed the importance of addressing mental health issues early, noting how peer pressure, social media, and academic stress continue to affect young people.
PCPT Ana Marie P. Lopez of the Apayao Provincial Police Office (APPO) also briefed attendees on Republic Act 8353 or the Anti-Rape Law of 1997, discussing the importance of understanding legal protections and how to report violations. PCpl Geneva C. Claveria of the Luna Municipal Police Station followed with a discussion on the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 (RA 9165), reminding participants of the legal and personal consequences of drug involvement.
The event also emphasized responsible behavior, community participation, and ethical decision-making. Organizers reiterated the role of the youth in strengthening local governance and contributing to lasting peace and development.
