LUNA, Apayao – Nine students from Apayao have been awarded Department of Science and Technology (DOST) scholarships after passing the examinations held in April.
The DOST-Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR), through the Provincial Science and Technology Office (PSTO), conducted the DOST-Science Education Institute Undergraduate Scholarship Orientation and Signing of Scholarship Agreement at the DOST-Apayao PSTO Conference Hall in Luna, Apayao, earlier today, July 10, 2024.
Among the successful applicants, Carhrihl Joash Balonggay from the University of the Cordilleras, Yzha Rienne Jamoyo of Apayao Science High School, and James Lawrence Pargad of Apayao Science High School were awarded Merit Scholarships. The other passers were awarded the RA 7687 scholarship, also known as the “Science and Technology Scholarship Act of 1994.” These recipients include Aphrylle Xyrelle Alipay and Christian Kylle Balinan from Santa Marcela National High School, Rayver Lumabao and Mon Llander Molina from Apayao Science High School, and Coline Mei Pugao and Angelika Saul from Flora National High School.
The orientation introduced scholars to the terms and conditions of their scholarships and informed them about the expectations and responsibilities. This event helped scholars understand the resources available and the specific requirements they need to fulfill.
After the orientation, the qualified scholars signed their Scholarship Agreement and took their Oath as scholars via Zoom, in the presence of DOST Regional Director Dr. Nancy A. Bantog and Apayao Provincial Science and Technology Director Engr. Debbie Glynn V. Manangkil.
The scholarship benefits include tuition fee subsidies of up to PhP40,000 per academic year, increased monthly stipends of PhP8,000 effective January 2024, a learning materials/connectivity allowance of PhP5,000 per semester, health insurance, a clothing allowance, a transportation allowance, and additional support for thesis and graduation expenses. These financial aids are complemented by non-monetary S&T learning assistance, ensuring comprehensive support for the scholars. By Krizza Joy Castillo
