LA TRINIDAD, Benguet – The municipal government’s safety protocol task force disclosed that some ninety percent of the town’s business establishments are now compliant with the established health and safety protocols to prevent the rapid spread of the dreaded Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) in the municipality,
Vice Mayor Roderick Awingan who chairs the inter-agency safety and protocol task force said the significant increase in the number of business establishments complying with the prescribed health and safety protocols could be attributed to the aggressive information and education campaign being undertaken to ensure the adherence of the people to the standard protocols to deter the spread of the deadly virus in the locality.
He claimed the more than a month of regular inspections of the establishments coupled with the appropriate information dissemination campaign played a key role in improving the compliance of businesses to the prescribed health and safety protocols crafted by the national and local inter-agency task forces for the management of emerging and re-emerging infectious diseases.
Previously, Awingan admitted there was low compliance to these protocols by the business establishments that were inspected during the initial implementation of the community quarantine.

However, the vice mayor stated that with the downgrading of the status of the municipality to general community quarantine (GCQ) and modified GCQ and with the easing up on the operation of some businesses, the compliance rate of businesses in the different barangays significant improved.
According to him, among the initial observations of the members of the task force on the compliance of businesses to the prescribed minimum health standards include the insufficient disinfectants in the foot baths, insufficient supply of alcohol in the containers placed in the entrance of establishments and lack of physical distancing signages.
Vice Mayor Awingan said the members of the task force will continue to inspect the different establishments in the municipality to monitor their compliance to these prescribed minimum health standards and to ensure the establishments consistently adhere to the safety protocols during period of the community quarantine.
He commended the members of the safety protocol task force for their patience, sincerity and dedication in discharging their assigned duties and responsibilities despite their exposure to the virus due to the nature of their work, saying that what matters is that the health and safety of the residents in the municipality will be protected.
The municipal official called on owners of business establishments not to wait for the members of the task force to pinpoint their violations during their monitoring activities as it should be inherent upon them to sincerely comply with the established minimum health and safety protocols to prevent the possibility of any increase in the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in the municipality in the coming weeks.
