BANGUED, Abra – Gov. Eustaquio Bersamin expressed the gratitude of the people of Abra to the University of the Cordilleras (UC) and the Baguio Correspondents and Broadcasters Club (BCBC) for their donation of over 23,899 brand new books that will be distributed to the different public schools in the far flung villages of the province to ensure their readiness for the full implementation of the K to 12 basic education program next year.
The UC, through its Project HELEN, sourced out the books from the Childrens International Philippines Inc. (CIPI), a non-government organization working for the welfare of children, while the BCBC linked up the higher education institution to the provincial government for the identification of the beneficiaries of the books that will be donated.
UC and BCBC representatives will be turning over the brand new books to Gov. Bersamin and the provincial and education officials during simple turnover rites to be held at the Abra Provincial Capitol on Tuesday, August 4.
“We are grateful to UC, BCBC and CIPI for the donated books which will be of great help in significantly addressing the pupil to book ratio in the different schools that were previously identified as the beneficiaries of the donation. Our people will surely treasure the donation and rest assured that the books will be passed on in good condition to the young generations if not outdated by the rapidly changing information and communication technology,” Gov. Bersamin stressed.
It was learned that that UC and BCBC will also be turning over to the Abra provincial government and the Abra provincial hospital over P1 million worth of medical kits which could be used in attending to the basic health needs of the people seeking medical treatment in the public facility.
Aside from the book donation, the UC and BCBC delegation will be proceeding to Dolores town where the members of the team will be performing the traditional hand washing demonstration in one of the largest public schools in the said municipality.
Further, a good number of hand washing kits will also be distributed to the children for them to practice proper hand washing techniques in order to be healthy.
The UC delegation will be led by Leonarda Aguinalde, vice president for administration, while the BCBC team will be headed by Dhobie de Guzman of ABS-CBN 3 Baguio.
