LA TRINIDAD, Benguet – Candidates of Mr. and Ms. Benguet graced the opening ceremony of the Adivay celebration on Monday as they danced in Bindiyan and showcased their intelligence in a talk show interview at the capitol building.
Celebrating the 123rd foundation anniversary of the province through ADIVAY, the event centered on the theme, “Benguet: Getaway to Unforgettable Getaways.” This highlights the unforgettable experiences that the province offers to tourists and as a gateway to other Cordillera provinces.
In his message, Governor Melchor Diclas encouraged unity, diversity and exploration for the people of the province. He also gave emphasis to the beauty of scenery and people in peace.
“Together let us embark on this exciting journey. Explore the unique beauty of our province and celebrate the warmth and charm of its people. May this festival reflect the spirit of unity, diversity and exploration,” Diclas said.
Rejoicing diversity and collective identity and the festival as testament of resiliency cored the message of Vice Governor Ericson Felipe to which he also stressed on leadership empowerment of the youth. Moreover, Congressman Erik Yap, through his representative, talked about human capital as a catalyst for uplifting the province.
Meanwhile, pre-pageant engrossed in activities such staging traditional Benguet dance and casual interviews which will be calculated as 10% of their total score.
Eleven participating candidates danced in Bindiyan wearing various traditional attire of the Benguet people. Subsequently, they were also catered by local government leaders of various municipalities for the sashing ceremony.
The talk show interview focused on showcasing advocacies and topics revolving around self-development, advocacies, tourism, culture, agriculture and other societal issues. Netizens also participated by incorporating their questions online.
MMB committee members Dr. Ryan Guiranan and Rachelle Cariño said that the pageant will uphold the leadership and communal participation of the candidates. This year’s competition also highlighted the proposal of MMB Layag in support of candidates’ advocacies.
The pageant finals night on November 25 will take place in Benguet Sports Complex at 6PM.
ADIVAY celebration will partake in a month-long celebration from November 6 until December 9 that will feature different activities and showcase the rich culture and tradition of the province. By Adrian Mas
