LA TRINIDAD, Benguet – On November 8, senior citizens of the different municipalities of Benguet celebrated their contributions to society at the Senior Citizens Adivay Show held at the Benguet Sports Complex at Wangal, La Trinidad.
The senior citizens participated in the Adivay Chorale Competition where they showcased their honed skills in singing and playing instruments. Despite all of them showing impressive performances, not everyone could come home as winners. However, they did not come home empty-handed as the rest of the municipalities each earned PhP5,000 as a consolation prize.
The municipality of Tuba brought home the victory with the cash prize of PhP20,000 followed by La Trinidad with PhP15,000 and Itogon with PhP10,000.
The senior citizens representing each municipality continued the celebration by performing intermission numbers with some performing in groups and some singing solo with backup instrumentals.
The celebration did not just stop with the singing and performing as the senior citizens were also recognized by having them made aware of the benefits due them.
Republic Act 11982 signed February 26, 2024, states that all Filipino senior citizens residing in the Philippines and abroad, upon reaching the age of 100, are entitled to receive a cash gift of One PhP100,000.00 and a letter of felicitation from the President of the Philippines.
It also states that upon reaching the ages 80, 85, ninety 90, and 95, they will receive a cash gift of P10,000.
This law also introduced the Elderly Data Management System where all the eligible senior citizens aged 75 and above are asked to register to keep track of those who are going to be beneficiaries of this act.
