A total of 320 blood bags were collected during a blood donation drive of the 1405th Ready Reserve Infantry Battalion on December 8, 2O24 at the KSU-Bulanao Campus gymnasium.
The bloodletting activity was part of the simultaneous AFP-wide blood donation activity as part of 89th AFP Anniversary Celebration with the theme: “Laang Kawal at Makabagong Bayani: Dugong Alay Mo, Sandigan ng Buhay Ko.”
Responding to the call to help save lives are cadets of the KSU ROTC Unit and its cross enrolled cadets from St. Louis College of Bulanao, Kalinga Colleges Science and Technology, International School of Asia and the Pacific-Kalinga, Cordillera A+ Computer Technology College. The 5th Infantry Division, CMO battalion, reservist, and some civilians also joined the activity.
The 14O5th Ready Reserve Infantry Battalion has partnered with the One Kalinga Blood in organizing the event, with other partner agencies including the Blood Collecting Unit of Pasil and Tabuk City, City Health Services Office, Philippine Dental Association-Kalinga Chapter, PAMET, Kalinga Provincial Hospital, PDOHO-HRH, Kalinga State University, and Provincial Health Office.
Staff Sergeant Janette M. Cristobal of the 1405 CDC RESCOM PA said that they regularly hold a blood-letting activity every quarter in partnership with One Kalinga Blood, a private organization based in Kalinga dedicated to the cause of ensuring sufficient blood supply in the province.
Cristobal added that in every blood-letting they hold, 30 percent of the blood collected goes to the needs of AFP personnel, reservists, and their dependents while the remaining 70 percent is available to the public with no conditionality.
“Lumapit lang po sila (public) sa amin, pwede naming silang ma-assist makakuha ng dugo,” she said. By Tabuk PIO
