BAGUIO CITY – The Agriculture and Fisheries Resources Research and Extension Development Network (AFRREDN) convened its first committee meeting to discuss the three-year plans for 2026-2028 on March 27, 2025, at the Organic Agriculture Building Conference Hall, BABRC Compound in Dontogan, Baguio City.
As part of its continuing efforts to forge strong alliances with government researchers and science communicators to effectively inform the public about government programs, research, and activities, the four committees namely the Research for Development Committee, Extension and Transfer Committee, Institutional Development Support Committee, and Knowledge Management Committee tackled the 2026-2028 three-year plan.
“As a member of the committee, we continue to communicate the function of our committees, and we have reached a consensus on the activities we have undertaken within the network,” stated AFRREDN Secretariat Veronica F. Fangasan.
The meeting focused on planning for the three-year period, with the network’s function being anchored in developing technical experts and trainers to deliver programs and services to farmers and fisherfolk in the region. It also emphasized the implementation of collaborative initiatives for technology transfer, promotion, and marketing that support local government units (LGUs) in developing agri-fishery services and initiatives, as well as monitoring and evaluating AF R4DE interventions.
The four committees have distinct roles which were also presented in the activity. Specifically, the Research for Development Committee is responsible for determining research and development initiatives, including the co-identification, co-designing, and co-implementation of research agendas and priorities. For the Extension and Transfer Committee, it focuses on the transfer of technologies and knowledge through appropriate extension modalities and scaling processes.
Further, the Institutional Development Support Committee identifies and provides institutional support to R4DE stakeholders and implementers while the Knowledge Management Committee maintains and updates regional R4DE project repositories and databases, and develops relevant knowledge products to inform AF stakeholders.
The one-day committee meeting involved in-depth discussions within each committee to review, plan, and propose strategies for the next three years, ensuring an inclusive and holistic discussion, thus, setting the stage for a transformative period in the agri-fishery sector. By Vincent Savella
