TABUK CITY, Kalinga – In an electrifying showcase of rhythm and artistry, the annual Bodong Drum and Lyre Competition witnessed Agbannawag Central School securing its third consecutive championship title.
The event, filled with whimsy and childlike wonder, transformed into a spectacular celebration of music and movement as five elementary school bands captivated the audience with performances inspired by beloved Disney films.
Each competing school integrated elements from various Disney movies, ranging from fairy tales and superhero adventures to animated classics, bringing a vibrant and nostalgic atmosphere to the competition. The performances were met with thunderous applause as the young musicians showcased their precision, coordination, and creativity.
Emerging victorious once again, Agbannawag Central School not only claimed the championship title but also took home an impressive cash prize of ₱100,000, along with a prestigious plaque and certificate. Their remarkable win solidified their status as the dominant force in the competition, having secured the top spot in 2023, 2024, and now 2025.
The other competing schools also delivered stellar performances, earning well-deserved recognition. Rizal Central School secured the first runner-up position, followed by Bulanao Central School, Mabilong Elementary School, and St. Tonis College Inc., claiming second, third, and fourth runner-up titles respectively. Each runner-up school received cash prizes of P80,000, ₱65,000, ₱45,000, and ₱30,000 respectively, along with plaques and certificates.
Additionally, all participating schools were awarded an extra ₱10,000 for their outstanding efforts and participation.
Adding to Agbannawag’s streak of excellence, Agbannawag National High School also clinched the championship title in the Secondary Drum and Lyre Competition.
They triumphed over formidable competitors, including St. Theresita’s School (STS)-Tabuk, STS-Balbalan, St. Tonis College Inc., and STS-Lubuagan, further cementing their school’s reputation as a powerhouse in the drum and lyre arena.
The Bodong Drum and Lyre Competition continues to be a highlight of the local cultural scene, celebrating young talent, teamwork, and musical excellence. With Agbannawag Central School and Agbannawag National High School reigning supreme, anticipation for next year’s competition is already building, as schools prepare to challenge the champions and vie for the coveted title.
