BAGUIO CITY – Representatives from concerned government agencies and the different offices of the Baguio City local government supported the aggressive implementation of policies and programs to enhance the welfare of persons with disability not only in the city but also in the whole Cordillera.
This was the consensus reached by the representatives of the concerned government agencies and offices of the city government who attended the crafting of the Communication Plan for Regional and Local Committees on Disability Affairs held last February 11, 2025 at a hotel along Legarda Road.
Persons with Disability Affairs Office (PDEAO) head Dr. Samuel Aquino said that the there is a need to empower local governments in the region to establish their respective persons with disability affairs office for the component city of Tabuk and first to third class municipalities and the designation of focal persons for fourth to sixth class municipalities.
He claimed that the establishment of the persons with disability affairs offices and the designation of focal persons in the different local governments region wide is vital in aggressively implementing the various policies and programs for the welfare of persons with disability in their respective areas of jurisdiction.
The crafting of the communication plan for the regional and local committees on disability affairs was spearheaded by the Regional Committee on Disability Affairs (RCDA)and the Persons with Disability Affairs office (PDAO) of the Baguio City government.
The communication plan will be presented to the RCDA during its first quarter meeting scheduled on March 19, 2025 before being submitted to the regional social development committee of the Regional Development Council (RDC).
The commitments of the concerned agencies and the offices of the local government range from their existing policies and programs and resources for the upliftment of the welfare of persons with disability as part of the government’s efforts for inclusivity of the vulnerable and marginalized sectors.
