BAGUIO CITY – Vigilant monitoring by concerned agencies is needed to ensure the continued compliance of public utility vehicles in granting fare discounts to students during weekends and holidays.
The City Council Research Division in a legislative monitoring report submitted to Vice Mayor Edison Bilog made this recommendation after tracking Resolution No. 15-17 which requested the Dept. of Transportation to amend its circulars on the 20 percent discount for students fare to include Saturdays, Sundays and holidays.
In the report, local legislative assistant III Nechel Occasion noted that the resolution was implemented and complied with after DOTr Cordillera Officer-in-Charge Regional Director Jennilyn Avelino affirmed the amendment through Land Transportation Franchising Regulatory Board (LTFRB) Memorandum Circular no. 2017-024.
The memorandum states that students can avail of the 20 percent discount from Monday to Sunday including summer breaks, legal and special holidays.
Occasion said that while it was implemented, concerned agencies should “vigilant in the monitoring of all the public land transportation services on the implementation of the (said) memorandum circular and other related circulars” to ensure continued grant of fare discount privileges to the commuting public.
