BAGUIO CITY – At least 58 employees of the Department of Agriculture – Regional Field Office- Cordillera (DA-RFO-CAR) participated in a two-day training workshop on Technical Writing and Advanced Communication on April 15–16, 2025, at the DA-CAR, Old Conference Hall.
The participants were from various divisions and offices of the DA-RFO CAR.
The training covered a range of topics, including effective business communication, the essentials of technical writing, standard operating procedures (SOPs) in writing, a workshop on proposal and business case writing, and ethical and legal considerations in technical writing.
These sessions were facilitated by Peter P. Dalocdoc Jr. and Reslyn G. Capuyan, both faculty members of the College of Arts and Humanities at Benguet State University.
On the first day, Capuyan emphasized the do’s and don’ts of technical writing, including the proper use of punctuations and vocabularies, particularly in crafting business and social letters.
“Punctuation is powerful, and it is better to use simple rather than hifalutin words,” she noted. The afternoon session included a discussion and hands-on workshop on different types of letters, as well as understanding technical and research reports.
Meanwhile, Claridad Kiat-ong from the 4K Program shared that, “I appreciated the second part, especially on creating communication letters. As an English major, I also wanted to be updated, since I never taught in the academe. When I reviewed my previous communication letters, I noticed errors in punctuations. Overall, this training was useful I was informed of the proper usage of punctuations, quotations, and salutations.”
The second day session focused on photography and captioning, covering the rules of taking photos, types of photography, and how to write effective captions. This was followed by a photo and caption critiquing session.
The training workshop concluded with participants sharing their key takeaways and an acknowledgment of the speakers who facilitated the activity. By MBangao
