LINGAYEN, Pangasinan – Capping off the do-or-die semi-finals round under division 2 of the 2nd LGU Unity Games Women’s Volleyball Tourney, Aguilar took down their nemesis, Sison via winning three straight sets.
Aguilar,led by star player Maria Karen Baraquio, built an early momentum and secured a 9-point advantage against Sison, 25-16 at the end of the first set.
Aguilar sustained their game to begin the second set of the game with a 5-point advantage, 8-5 through speedy spikes and furious kills that eventually built a 19-point advantage in the second quarter, 25-6.
After getting blown out in the first two sets, Sison, charged back with a power-up teamwork to prove their grit to win this round. Meanwhile, Baraquio of Aguilar showed that she stayed focus to win the game by taking blistering spikes to put the opposing players on their knees.
As the game heated up, loud cheers from supporters filled the sports arena despite the growing tension.
Strong-spirited player Emy Castillo of Sison led her team to hit back every attack of Aguilar. On the other hand, Baraquio, assisted by Sharlene Rosario, produced consecutive unanswered points mostly off smashes for her team.
Aguilar toppled Sison after the latter failed to return the potent spike unleashed by Baraquio to hack out 25-16 victory at the end of the third quarter.
Aguilar will advance to the final rounds to complete the contingents vying for the championship tilt in the tourney including: Burgos under division 2, which swept Infanta with 3-0, and Sta. Barbara and Alaminos City under division 1 which earlier secured their seats in the championship rounds after trouncing Rosales and Bayambang, respectively.
