The Philippine Mine Safety and Environment Association (PMSEA) partners with Business Sweden to promote sustainable mining practices. Sealed with a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), this transformative collaboration is set to be a major step forward for the country’s mining industry.
The PMSEA is a forerunner in practicing and promoting responsible mining in the country. Mr. Luis R. Sarmiento, ASEAN Eng., PMSEA’s president, reiterates the group’s commitment to improving mine safety and environmental standards. He also emphasizes the importance of collaboration to achieve responsible mining that benefits the industry, the community, and its people.
According to Sarmiento, “PMSEA has worked with various foreign mission here in the country to bolster our mining industry’s capabilities. Every year, we also welcome the diplomatic corps to the Annual Mine Safety and Environment Conference in Baguio.”
ANMSEC is PMSEA’s banner event held every November in Baguio, coinciding with Mine Safety Week. This year is the ANMSEC’s platinum year. “We are proud that Sweden is our partner country for the 70th ANMSEC,” says Sarmiento. ANMSEC is set on November 19 to 22, 2024.
At the signing of the MOU, Mr. Harald Fries, Chargé d’affaires of the Embassy of Sweden, stated that this is the beginning of leading the way in mining sustainability, and it is essential to the shared future of both countries.
During the ceremony, the State Secretary to the Swedish Minister for International Development Cooperation and Foreign Trade, Mr. Håkan Jevrell, also demonstrated Sweden’s efforts and dedication to climate change and economic growth.
Mr. Emil Akander, Vice President and Head for Region South and Southeast Asia of Business Asia, delivered the overview of the joint project and shared Sweden’s pursuit of supporting the Philippines in advancing and accelerating its mining industry into greener, safer, and more productive operations.
