BAGUIO CITY – The Department of Agriculture-Cordillera Administrative Region (DA-CAR) recently conducted a Training on Integrated Bite Case Management System (IBCMS) using the Global Alliance for Rabies Control (GARC) platform, aimed at equipping project staff and stakeholders with the skills to implement an effective rabies data management system.
The IBCMS integrates three core components of rabies case monitoring: Bite Case Tracker (BCT), Rabies Case Tracker (RCT), and Vaccination and Sterilization Tracker (VST). These components are complemented by a built-in email alert system, which notifies users in real-time of any reported rabies cases. This innovative platform provides a comprehensive solution to improve the efficiency of rabies control and prevention programs in the region.
The training was facilitated by Anna Charinna Amparo, Public Health Research Manager of GARC. Recognized globally as a leading non-profit organization in rabies prevention, GARC collaborates with governments, international stakeholders, and local partners for a comprehensive solution to improve the efficiency of bite case management in the region.
Participants included key representatives from various government agencies and institutions, Dr. Khecy M. Colas, City Health Services Office; Dr. Bernadette C. Pedro, City Veterinary and Agriculture Office; Dr. Peter Canggat Jr., Provincial Veterinary Office-Benguet; Dr. Kimberly Pearl D. Takinan, Dr. Karl Glenn Kigis, and Dr. Henry Jonathan Gwynn O. Salasa of the DA-Regulatory Division; Dr. Meriam M. Micklay and Ms. Deemugh Agnes C. Bantog of the Regional Animal Disease Diagnostic Laboratory (RADDL-CAR).
The partnership with GARC was instrumental in establishing the IBCMS, as the Project had no allocated budget for a data management platform. GARC’s free platform offered a timely and effective solution to address this gap, which highlights the importance of resource-sharing and collaboration in public health initiatives. By Leny D. Mendoza
