BAGUIO CITY – The promising young Baguio-born car racer achieved his performance in the prestigious Formula 4 Southeast Asia after securing a commanding victory and finishing second overall in Race 5 of the Round 2 of the series held at the Chang International Circuit in Buriram, Thailand over the weekend.
The race was held under challenging wet and tricky conditions but Inigo Anton continued to move waves in the motorsport world as he leads the Rookie Cup championship of the current Formula 4 Southeast Asia.
Anton was immediately engaged in a fierce battle against veteran competitors after starting from the third position. He was able to fight his way until series leader Alex Sawer of Vietnam overtook him on lap 3 as he demonstrated his driving prowess and resilience to rise up to the occasion.
He maintained second place and was hounded throughout the race by Thai local hero Ayrton Asdathorn and Australian Seth Gilmore. He was able to hold his ground showcasing his adaptability and determination in difficult circumstances despite tremendous pressure from fellow riders behind him.
Anton’s impressive drive earned him his second overall podium of the year and further solidified his lead in the Rookie Cup standings.
“We managed to get to halfway through the race, but from there, it was all about defense. After intense pressure from the guys behind, we managed to hold on. Thank you to my team, Black Arts Racing and my coach, Alex Yoong, for guiding me through my first wet race in Formula cars. It was a fun race, and I am super happy with the results. Of course, a big thank you to all my sponsors, especially Motul Luzon Infinite Serve, and sir Charlie Ong, for giving me this incredible opportunity to race in Formula cars. It truly is a dream come true,” Anton stressed, expressing his excitement about the prestigious race.
Anton wants to focus on his momentum and aims for another strong finish in Round 3 on the Formula 4 SEA series scheduled to take place on a street circuit in Bangsaen, Thailand in July.
The 20-year old car racer shared that he and his team are working hard to develop their set up where he is learning a lot but still needs to learn more as he prepares for the third round of this competition.
He admitted that it is quite a challenge for him and his team but they will continue to do their best since it will be his first street race on a very unfamiliar track.
Anton’s impressive performance in the first two rounds of the series is a testament to his dedication, skill and the unwavering support from his sponsors, Motul, Alpinestars Philippines, Yokohama Philippines, Blue Coffee Distributors, Time Master watches, and most importantly his family who are fully committed to his journeys towards motorsports excellence.
He is now emerging as a rising star to watch in the international motorsport scene with his sights firmly set on the Formula 4 SEA Rookie Championship. By Dexter A. See
