LUNA, Apayao – The 29th Apayao Founding Anniversary celebration commenced on February 3 with a sports tournament at the BGVJR Memorial Sports Complex in Poblacion, Luna.
Unlike in previous years, where the sports festival showcased the top athletes from the seven municipalities, this edition featured games played by the newly-elected barangay officials in the province.
A grand parade with participation from all municipalities, the provincial government, and national agencies took place, as part of the kick off activities.
Following the parade, muses from each municipality were presented and participated in a question-and-answer segment. The muse of Calanasan secured the segment victory with a 91.67 percent grade from the judges. She was awarded a cash prize by Board Member Kyle Bulut-Cunan and Vice Governor Remy Albano.
The program also featured the presentation of the 14 candidates for “Taer and Dayag ti Apayao.” After their meet-and-greet on February 2, the candidates were formally introduced to the public.
Vice Governor Remy Albano in his opening remarks urged fellow officials to maintain their efforts for the ongoing development of the province. He underscored the significant strides Apayao has made since its separation from Kalinga in 1995, catapulting the province into the forefront of development and progress.
Gracing the sports festival’s opening was Ms. Michele Gumabao, a notable figure in Philippine sports and pageantry. In her message, she encouraged the youth to pursue careers that bring joy and contentment.
An exhibition game was also played by selected yApayao volleybelles along with the team of the guest athlete. By Jc Marquez
