LUNA, Apayao – Barangay Health Workers (BHWs) and Barangay Nutrition Scholars (BNSs) from all municipalities assembled in Apayao Tourism and Sports Complex (ATSC) Clubhouse in San Gregorio, Luna on June 11 for a provincial meeting called by the Provincial Health Office (PHO).
The daylong session served as a working space for field-level health workers to raise concerns, exchange updates, and sharpen coordination on community-based health and nutrition services.
Conversations focused on tackling malnutrition, handling non-communicable diseases, and preparing for health threats that could reach even Apayao’s farthest barangays. Open forums gave space for BHWs and BNSs to speak directly about conditions in their areas.
The PHO, for its part, laid out its direction in further supporting the workers, through continued trainings, legal backing, and organized federation work.
The meeting likewise reaffirmed the need to invest in the people who do the ground work and those who knock on doors, deliver services on foot, and carry health messages to the most rural sitios. By Loremia Pareja
