LUNA, Apayao – Apayao province has been officially classified as a “green” area, which means the province does not have security concerns and is generally peaceful and orderly, for the upcoming May 2025 national and local elections.
The classification was based on the parameter outlined in Section 108 of Commission on Elections (COMELEC) Resolution No. 11067, signifying that all barangays and municipalities within Apayao are considered to be relatively peaceful and orderly.
The COMELEC assessment indicates a low risk of election-related violence or disruptions in the province.
This positive classification, according to the provincial government, is a testament to the collaborative efforts of local government units (LGUs), law enforcement agencies and the community in fostering a secure and conducive atmosphere for the electoral process.
Apayao has historically demonstrated strong voter turnout, further contributing to the confidence in the upcoming elections.
There are four (4) categories for elections hotspots – under yellow category are areas with reported election related incidents, orange category covers areas of immediate concern where there is a serious armed threat, while areas under red category are of grave concern and either one of the grounds for the declaration of COMELEC control exists.
“Green” categorization allows for a smoother and more efficient conduct of the elections in the province. It also reflects positively on the province’s overall peace and order situation, encouraging greater voter participation and confidence in the integrity of the electoral process.
This positive assessment is expected to contribute to a fair and credible election outcome in the province. COMELEC-Apayao will continue to monitor the situation and work closely with local stakeholders to ensure a peaceful and successful election. By Krizza Joy Castillo
