LUNA, Apayao — The Local Health Systems Maturity Level (LHS ML) monitoring team from the Department of Health – Center for Health Development Cordillera Administrative Region (DOH CHD-CAR) applauded the Province of Apayao for its substantial advancements in strengthening its local health system.
Said recognition took place on March 20, 2025 at the Sangguniang Panlalawigan Hall during the LHS ML and Local Government Unit Health Scorecard (HSC) monitoring.
The DOH CHD-CAR team highlighted Apayao’s diligent efforts in enhancing the six essential building blocks of the Local Health System: Leadership and Governance, Health Financing, Service Delivery, Health Workforce, Health Information System, and Access to Essential Medicines and Technologies. Their comprehensive evaluation praised the collaborative initiatives undertaken by local officials and health practitioners alike to improve health outcomes in the province.
“We are incredibly impressed with Apayao’s commitment to advancing its health system. The province has showcased a strong leadership approach, effective governance, and a clear vision for health service delivery that resonates well with Universal Health Care goals,” said a representative from the monitoring team.
In addition to acknowledging the progress made, the team urged Apayao to strive for recognition as a model site for other provinces establishing a benchmark for excellence in the management of the local health system. Apayaos commitment to serving its citizens’ health needs and serving as a regional leader in efficient health service delivery is demonstrated by this goal.
Together with local government initiatives, DOH CHD-CARs ongoing support demonstrates Apayaos dedication to improving its health services even more. In order to guarantee that health services continue to be available and efficient for all citizens, health officials expressed hope that the province will build on its current momentum.
Provincial Health Officer, Dr, Mark Joleen Calban expressed his enthusiasm over the recognition.
“This is just the beginning for us. We look forward to implementing more programs and initiatives that will ultimately lead to better health outcomes and contribute to the full realization of Universal Health Care in Apayao,” he added.
As Apayao forges ahead on its path toward health system enhancement, the collaboration between local government and health authorities serves as a promising model for the entire Cordillera Administrative Region, embodying the spirit of innovation necessary for achieving comprehensive and sustainable health care solutions.
