BAGUIO CITY – The Province of Apayao hauled several Gawad Kalikasan awards at the Philippine Environment Month Regional Culminating Program in Baguio City today, June 30, 2023.
Conducted by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources Cordillera (DENR-CAR), the awarding program recognized the agency’s partners for their outstanding contributions in environmental conservation and protection in the region.
The Provincial Government of Apayao (PGA), was among institutions granted the prestigious Gawad Kalikasan Award for exceptional commitment to responsible mining, environmental sustainability, economic upliftment, and environmental law enforcement.
“Their implementation of mining policies, and proactive monitoring efforts have contributed to garnering by the Province of the highest declared Minahang Bayan in the region. Their collaborative approach involving various stakeholders ensures effective monitoring and enforcement, leading to responsible and environmentally conscious mining industry in Apayao,” the plaque reads.
The award was received by Provincial Administrator Atty. Edmar Pascua, Board Member Mcleen Julian, and the Provincial Mining and Regulatory Team.
Also conferred the same award were Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Apayao Provincial Director Engr. Wena Buston, Cagandungan East Upland Farmers Association (CEUFA), and Nambucayan Agriculture Cooperative. By JCM
