CONNER, Apayao – The combined forces of various suffices of the Apayao PLGU made possible the provision of several services to solo parents during the holding of 2024 Solo Parents Service Caravan Cum Adolescent Parents Education Forum yesterday August 15, 2024 held at EKB Clubhouse, Caglayan, Conner, Apayao.
Said event aims to raise awareness and inform solo parents of the benefits the government has for them as well as their rights and the legal requirements they need to submit.
The Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO) in partnership with the Provincial Legal Office -Free Lawyers, Apayao Provincial Health & Project Butsy, Governor’s Office- Task Force LUSA, Conner District Hospital (CDH) and the Local Government of Conner worked together to offer the much needed services of the solo parents, with over 130 participating in the activity.
This year’s theme “Solo Parent na Rehistrado, sa Gobyerno Tiyak na Protektado” reiterates the importance of solo parents’ affiliation and valuable contribution in aiding societal development by becoming part of a legitimate organization.
During the caravan Apayao Provincial Health & Project Butsy in collaboration with Apayao Provincial Hospital (APH) provided free consultation, dental check-up and free medication.
Moreover, the Provincial Legal Office – Free Lawyers – gave free notarial services to some solo parents who are not yet registered as solo parents. Likewise, Task Force- LUSA gave some advice to solo parent land owners who don’t have yet a deed of sale to their title.
Apayao PSWDO Jocelyn Loyon, meanwhile, highlighted the efforts and dedication of the solo parents in the community, and reminded them of the importance of the program.
Loyon encouraged the solo parents to avail of the benefits provided by the government and to be responsible in completing and submitting requirements, saying they are lucky that the government is now going to where they are and doing what it can to reach them out.
During the forum, some lectures were done on topics like Adolescent Health Education, the PSWDO programs and services on children, youth ,women, senior citizens, family, and solo parents.
Registered solo parents also received school supplies (notebooks, pencils and ballpens) and hygiene kits (toothpaste, toothbrush, soap, shampoo and powder) from the Provincial Government of Apayao. By Michelle Acantilado
