LUNA, Apayao – The province held its Youth Against Drugs and Terrorism Provincial Summit 2023 involving young people in the area to inspire them to be active participants in development while avoiding the temptation of illegal drug use.
The Philippine National Police (PNP) organized the group of youth called “Youth Against Drugs and Terrorism” or Kabataan Kontra Droga At Terrorismo (KKDAT). It aspires to unite young people in the Philippines as partners in the fight against terrorism and drugs and to strengthen the volunteerism culture.
Attended by about 260 young people from all over the province, the summit was held in Flora, Apayao on August 5, 2023 with the participation of the province’s guards against fire.
The event emphasized the power of young people to be catalysts of change with the main theme, “Invigorating the Youth: Resilient and Adept Actors of Change.”
Many activities, during the event, were carried out such as the DRRM Olympics, where firefighters served as “umpire” along with different government officials from the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction (PDRRM).
The DRRM Olympics featured seven stations which tested the strength of the body and the strong cooperation of various groups. Some of the tasks they did were “ropemanship, bandaging, splinting, packaging and unpackaging, question and answer, firefighting, and sack race.”
The youth of Conner aced this Olympics. The youth from Pudtol came in second place, and the youth from Flora Municipality came in third.
