LUNA, Apayao – The Provincial Veterinary Office (PVO) launched a twelve-day training program for trainers on ruminant production earlier today, September 4, 2023 as part of the Farmer Livestock School (FLS) on Ruminant Production to respond to the demands on food security as well as to bolster livestock knowledge and skills of farmers in the province.
Small ruminant production was partially introduced in the province back in 2015 through the FLS. Since then, there have been only two (2) extension workers facilitating FLS. Thus, there is a need for the TOT for the effective adaptation of various options in ruminant management and production.
Two municipal livestock coordinators from each of the seven municipalities and six provincial livestock agricultural extension workers were selected to join the training. After the training, they are expected to conduct FLS in their respective municipalities and assist in its implementation.
Through the training, it is hoped that more farmers in Apayao will embrace new technology options, acquire additional knowledge and skills, and foster a sense of competence and ownership in livestock-related projects.
Speaker Marilyn Lilagan, during the training, reminded the participants of the importance of the roles of trainers, encouraging them to work hard and teach others well, so that they will become positive catalysts of change in their respective areas.
“Nu nasyaat ti panangtratom ti padam a tao, nasyaat met iti isubad na kenka,” said Ms. Lilagan. By Michelle Acantilado
