LUNA, Apayao – The province recorded an increase in number of births during the second quarter of this year, as shown in the latest data from the Philippine Statistics Authority.
A total of 1,150 live births were reported, marking a 2.4% increase from the same period last year when 1,123 births were documented.
The municipality of Luna topped the statistics with 669 births from April to June. This can be attributed to the presence of the Far North Luzon General Hospital and Training Center (FNLGHTC) in the said town. As the largest hospital in the province, FNLGHTC serves residents of Luna and also attracts patients from nearby towns to provide maternal and child healthcare services.
Throughout the province, slightly more girls were born than boys, with females making up 50.7% of the total births compared to males accounting for 49.3%.
Conner followed Luna with 235 births; Kabugao saw a peak in June that brought its quarterly total to 114. Other municipalities like Pudtol, Calanasan, Flora, and Santa Marcela posted more modest birth figures aligned with their smaller populations. By Jess Christley Marquez
