LUNA, Apayao – The Provincial Government of Apayao (PGA) marked National Disability Rights Week on July 25 at the ECBJR Evacuation and Multipurpose Building (Aliwa Gym) in San Isidro Sur, Luna.
The theme “Promoting Inclusion: Celebrating Abilities and Advocating Access” highlighted the importance of advocating for the rights of persons with disabilities (PWDs) and celebrating their contributions.
Governor Elias C. Bulut, Jr. delivered an inspiring message, showcasing various initiatives designed to support PWDs and the yApayaos. He also announced that Apayao would benefit from a new Bagong Urgent Care and Ambulatory Services (BUCAS) Center, which will provide urgent health care services, including minor surgeries.
Gov. Bulut emphasized, “Ibaga yu ti problema yu ta adda met pondo tayo. Awan ti maibati basta kaya tayo.”
Provincial Health Officer Dr. Mark Joleen M. Calban detailed the services offered through Project BUTSY, which prioritizes PWDs. The seventh phase of the project includes free eye check-ups and eyeglasses.
Melanie Batara from the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) discussed the 2024 Revised Rules under Joint Administrative Order No. 24-02, which provides special discounts for senior citizens and PWDs on essential goods.
The event also featured free eye screening for PWDs, followed by a General Assembly of the Provincial Disability Affairs Office (PDAO). By Loremia Pareja
