LUNA, Apayao – The Provincial Health Office (PHO) provided free influenza vaccinations during the provincial government’s General Assembly on January 3, 2024, at the ECBJr. Multipurpose Hall (Aliwa Gymnasium).
This is to curb the spread of the flu virus that usually hits during the cold and rainy months and affects not only the residents but also employees.
A total of 69 provincial government employees, including senior citizens, received the influenza (flu) vaccines, commonly referred to as “flu shots,” fortifying themselves against the influenza viruses.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention defines flu as a contagious respiratory illness caused by influenza viruses that can infect the nose, throat, and sometimes the lungs. Its symptoms can range from mild to severe, and in some cases, it can lead to fatal outcomes.
Influenza vaccines are developed twice a year to keep pace with the rapidly changing influenza virus. The vaccines are crucial in safeguarding individuals against infection, offering protection for at least 6 months.
Health authorities emphasize that the flu shot remains the most effective method to prevent the flu and its potential complications. The CDC strongly recommends annual flu vaccination for individuals 6 months and older, reducing the risk of flu contraction. By MOA
