LUNA, Apayao – Operatives from the Apayao Police Provincial Office (APPO), Luna Municipal Police Station (MPS), and the Calanasan-Luna Sub Office of the Community Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) recovered abandoned illegally sawn tanguile lumber worth Php 11,459 in Sitio Talissik, Cagandungan, Luna, Apayao, on the night of Friday, June 14.
In a separate operation, the Pudtol MPS recovered PhP11,025 worth of abandoned illegally sawn lumber along the riverbanks of Barangay Upper Maton, Pudtol, Apayao, on Saturday, June 15.
Based on the report, personnel from the 1st Apayao Police Mobile Force Company received a phone call from a concerned citizen, informing them about a pile of lumber sighted in a forested area at Sitio Talissik, Cagandungan, Luna.
Acting on this information, a team led by PLT David A. Benzon proceeded to the area and recovered fourteen pieces of tanguile lumber of various sizes and dimensions, totaling 381.99 board feet with an estimated market value of PhP11,459.70, as scaled by Rudy Balitnang, a forest ranger, however, efforts to locate the owner of the lumber were unsuccessful.
The recovered lumber was subsequently hauled and turned over to the CENRO Calanasan-Luna Sub Office at Sitio Payanan, Barangay San Gregorio, Luna, Apayao, for proper disposition.
Pudtol Operation
Similarly, the Pudtol MPS received a phone call from a concerned citizen about abandoned lumber sighted along the riverbank of Barangay Upper Maton, Pudtol. Immediately, a team led by PCPT Thomas B. Cayomba Jr., Officer-in-Charge, along with personnel from the CENRO Calanasan-Luna Sub Office, proceeded to the area. Upon arrival, they recovered ten pieces of sawn arimas (pacac) and seven pieces of tanguile flitches, with no claimants found.
Scaled by Mr. Pablo Calasag of the CENRO Calanasan-Luna-Pudtol Sub Office located in Barangay Capannikian, Pudtol, the lumber totaled 315 board feet with an estimated market value of PhP11,025.00 (35 pesos per board foot).
The recovered lumber was also hauled and turned over to the CENRO Calanasan-Luna Sub Office for proper disposition. By JCM
