LAOAG CITY – The provincial government of Apayao held its monthly Management Committee (ManCom) Meeting to ensure a smooth organization of the hosting of the upcoming Cordillera Month celebration next month.
Held on June 19th in Amici Resort, Laoag City, the meeting was presided over by Governor Elias C. Bulut, Jr., with the department heads of the provincial government in attendance.
One of the main objectives of the meeting was to finalize the tasks and assign committees responsible for the various events related to the celebration. The provincial government departments were tasked to collaborate with regional bodies such as Regional Development Council, National Economic and Development Authority, and other national line agencies.
The month-long celebration, aimed at promoting and celebrating the rich culture, heritage, and achievements of Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR), hold particular significance this year as it marks the 36th anniversary of the establishment of CAR, and the resumption of face-to-face activities, three years after being hampered by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Among the activities lined-up in the celebration are Unity Gong Relay, provincewide information and education campaign on Cordillera Autonomy, Tourism and Trade Fair, Parade, Cordillera Day program, and the Search for the Mr. and Ms. Cordillera 2023.
Gov. Bulut emphasized the importance of careful planning and coordination to make the hosting of the celebration memorable and successful. He underscored that the hosting is a good avenue for showcasing Apayao culture, creating opportunities for economic growth, and tourism development.
Additionally, the ManCom meeting provided a platform to discuss the Seal of Good Local Governance (SGLG) status of the province. The SGLG is a recognition given to local government units in the country that exemplify good governance practices and demonstrate notable performance in delivering public services. The ManCom discussed strategies to improve its chances of receiving the prestigious award.
As preparations move forward, the ManCom meeting concluded with a call for active participation and cooperation from all department heads in ensuring the success of the Cordillera Month celebrations, achieving the SGLG status, and future events and programs. By JCM
