LUNA, Apayao – The province is set to commemorate Indigenous People’s (IP) Month with a series of proposed activities to strengthen traditions and cultural practices in the province.
Committee Chairperson and Provincial Tourism Officer Ms. Rebecca T. Mamba unveiled the planned events during the Kapehan sa Kapitolyo, leading up to the celebration on October 24.
Under the theme “Enriching Cultural Heritage and Indigenous Treasure Towards a Brighter Future for the New Philippines,” the proposed festivities will kick off with a tribal parade, starting from San Gregorio, Luna, featuring participants from the province’s seven municipalities, government employees and the IPs themselves.
Anticipating a delegation of more than 1200, the celebration will also include a display of Apayao’s native delicacies, culminating in the creation of the largest sinandila in the Cordilleras.
The schedule further boasts Panaggaangrad/Indigenous Games, encompassing activities such as tug of war, indigenous basketball, talanggosi, ammadan, kadang-kadang, magbunot se mag igad, and more.
The responsible agencies will convene for a final meeting to confirm the activities and address any contingencies for the celebration.
October marks the National Indigenous Peoples Month, and Apayao aims to honor and celebrate its rich indigenous heritage through these events.
