LUNA, Apayao—After two years of unfruitful quest for higher rank and an evident poor performance in the last Cordillera Administrative Regional Athletic Association (CARAA), the Province of Apayao went back to its usual way of selecting the best athletes by conducting a Provincial Athletic Association Meet.
Apayao finally held its Provincial Meet on November 18-20, 2016 at Luna, Apayao, a revived strategy aimed to improve the feat of the Iapayaos for the upcoming 2017 CARAA Meet.
The staging of the Apayao Provincial Meet is the result of the Apayao Sports Management Committee Meeting held on July 27, 2016 at Luna Central Elementary School, Luna, Apayao hosted by the Department of Education (DepED) Division Office of Apayao through the initiative of Mr. Marlon Trumpo, the Education Program Supervisor and in-charged of Sports.
All District Sports Coordinators in 10 districts of the Province of Apayao together with the concurrence of Vice Governor Remy Albano and other representatives coming from the Provincial Government of Apayao (PGA) and Local Government Units (LGUs) unanimously agreed for the return of the 2016 Provincial Meet.
Going back to usual way of selecting the best players came out after Apayao garnered only eight gold medals and placed last in the 2016 CARAA Meet held last February, 2016 in Baguio City.
Vice Governor Albano said the conduct of District and Provincial Meet are necessary methods in selecting the best athletes in the Province. “We must come up with the best plans and applicable programs and conducting the usual district and provincial meet is what we need now,” he added.
The DepED-Division of Apayao through the leadership of Dr. Amador Garcia, Schools Division Superintendent has high hope that this time, the province will not be at the bottom but rather will be a tough contender in much higher overall ranking for CARAA 2017.
