KABUGAO, Apayao – Eight students from the Apayao Science High School (ASHS) have secured spots in the final rounds of two international mathematics competitions—the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Mathematical Olympiad (Big Bay Bei) and the Thailand International Mathematical Olympiad (TIMO).
The Big Bay Bei Final Round will take place in Hong Kong on March 14-17, 2025.
The ASHS students earned their qualifications after excelling in various mathematical categories. Korina Apilit received a gold award in Big Bay Bei, while Zephaniah Jill Obispo, Adrian Agngarayngay, and Zyrene Zhane Obispo claimed silver awards. Michelle Angelou Anno and Sahara Koph Labueng secured bronze awards. All other qualifiers are Grade 9 students except Zephaniah Obispo who is Grade 10.
In TIMO, Jeanne Wamil and Zephaniah Jill Obispo won silver awards, while Zyrene Zhane Obispo and Justerine Carpo earned bronze.
“I am truly amazed by their courage and perseverance,” said Coach Noble Domingo. “With consistent practice sessions every Friday until Saturday, these students have transformed from merit awardees to international competitors,” she added. By Loremia Pareja
