LUNA, Apayao – The Province of Apayao has seen a significant increase in dengue cases during the first half of 2024, as reported by the Department of Health–Cordillera (DOH-CAR).
Dengue cases rose by 64%, reaching 276 from January to June 22 this year, up from 168 cases recorded during the same period last year.
The DOH-CAR Regional Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit highlighted that overall dengue cases in the region surged by 71%, with 3,922 reported cases compared to 2,287 reported cases during the same period last year.
Mountain Province reported the highest increase in dengue cases with a staggering 149% rise, followed by Baguio City at 124%, Benguet at 101%, and Apayao at 64%.
In addition, the provinces of Abra, Apayao, Mt. Province, and the City of Baguio each reported one death due to dengue this year.
DOH – CAR urges the public to combat dengue by searching for and destroying mosquito breeding sites, taking self-protection measures, seeking early consultation, sustaining hydration, and supporting fogging in outbreak areas.
