LUNA, Apayao – All hands on deck for the Apayao State College (ASC) as the new academic year (AY) begins on August 19 in both Luna and Conner campuses.
With the full resumption of the face-to-face classes and activities nationwide that started last year, the ASC saw a surge in the enrollment this first semester of AY 2024-2025, recording the highest number of enrolled students in the post-COVID19 era.
Data from the ASC Registrar’s Office showed more than 5,302 college students have officially enrolled for the first semester of the SY 2024-2025 with additional 107 students enrolled in its Senior High School (SHS) program.
Out of the 5,302 college students, 37.60% or 1,994 are newcomers or college freshmen.
The lone tertiary education institution in the province likewise recorded a six percent (6%) increase in the total number of enrolled students this first semester of AY 2024-2025 compared to the same semester last year, which was at 5,015.
Bachelor of Science in Information Technology (BSIT) is still the most sought after undergraduate program with 1,122 students, while Bachelor of Technical – Vocational Teacher Education – Electronics Technology had no enrollees.
In a video message released on August 18 through the state college’s official Facebook page [Apayao State College – New], ASC President Dr. John Cabansag, welcomed the new and returning students of the ASC.
“Whether you are beginning or continuing your educational journey with us, we look forward to learning, exploring, and growing together. Congratulations for making the wise choice of joining Apayao State College, where your holistic development takes center stage,” said Dr. Cabansag, adding that the institution values the well-being of the students and prioritizes the balance between their academic pursuits and their personal lives.
Cabansag shared their efforts to improve the educational experience for the students this academic year, saying “We will continue implementing the innovative teaching methods, career and college educational partnerships, integrating technology into the learning process, and offering a wide range of extracurricular activities.”
In order for the students to develop their abilities and find their special talents, the college president also urged them to participate in all events on campus.
“Think of ASC as your home away from home – a place where you will be nurtured, challenged, and supported as you evolve to the exceptional individuals you are destined to become. Our doors are always open and we are here to guide and assist you every step of the way,” Cabansag concluded.
With several notable accomplishments last year such as International Organization Standardization (ISO) certification; launching of two undergraduate programs in Conner campus, Bachelor of Science (BS) in Criminology, and BS Tourism Management; producing 16 new foresters, three civil engineers; successful hosting and a first runner-up finish at the Cordillera Administrative Region Association of State Universities and Colleges (CARASUC) athletic meet, among others, the ASC is looking to top their performance the previous academic year by aiming for greater accomplishment this year.
The tertiary institution also produced 722 graduates last school year. By Jess Christley Marquez
