LUNA, Apayao – The Provincial Veterinary Office (PVO) of Apayao, this third quarter, will distribute 200 sheep in Pudtol as part of the Sheep Production Program under the Farmer’s Livestock School of the provincial government, in line with its vision to become the “Sheep Capital of the North”.
The sheep, amounting to PhP3 million, shall be shared by two to three associations, benefiting about forty individuals.
Sheep farming requires less labor yet is a good source of income for yApayaos, said PVO. In Addition, farmers don’t need expensive housing for the sheep and can also raise other animals along with them.
In an interview, Dr. Ralph Verzon, Provincial Veterinarian, shared that the program started when the Regional Veterinary Office gave 10 livestock to the province in 2015. The livestock eventually increased and doubled which gave the provincial government an idea of producing more.
Given the province’s vast fields and tropical climate, it is a perfect place to raise these animals.
The provincial government through the PVO, meantime, reassured that it shall continue to support programs under the Farmer’s Livestock School on Sheep Production. By Ginalyn Gapusan
